Development of Topology Optimization System Based on Msc.Patran/Nastran

Aiming at the weight minimization problem by considering constraints of modal frequencies in structural design of spacecraft, a topology optimization model was established by taking pseudo-density as design variable.Based on the platform of general finite element software Msc.Patran/Nastran, a topology optimization system was developed with Patran Command Language (PCL), in which finite element analysis code Nastran was adopted to perform structural analysis and sensitivity analysis, two-level multi-point approximation method was applied in optimum searching, pre- and post-process interface was also developed.Filtering was used on the sensitivities of the optimization to prevent checkerboard patterns in the design.The stiffness of low density elements was penalized to avoid localized mode in optimization problem with frequency constraints.A series of data files were set to transfer information among calculation modules.The efficiency and feasibility of the developed system is verified with typical example.The system is also applied to topology optimization of a component of a satellite structure, which showed that the system is able to handle large, real world, industrial analysis model with high efficiency.
