A Novel Peer Selection Mechanism for P2P-VoD System
This paper focuses on peer selection mechanism for P2P-VoD system. The goal of our proposed mechanism is not only to improve user experience of playing video, but also to decrease the inter-network traffic that produced by P2P-VoD application. For this purpose, the selection mechanism is divided into two phases. The first phase, performed on tracker server, is based on the lifetime of peers. It increases the probability of finding chunks of interest in these selected peers. The second phase, performed on peers, is based on physical distance which indicated by hops between nodes in the network, without cooperation with friendly P2P traffic control techniques like P4P. Simulations were performed on the OMNeT++ simulation platform. The results show that, compared with the conventional random selection mechanism, the inter-network traffic is effectively reduced 75%; the video startup delay is video shorten 38.8% and play continuity is improved 12.4%.
