Ecology study on soil respiration and variation at water-level-fluctuating zone in Xiangxi River

Three Gorges project bring about significant changes to environment of the water-level-fluctuating zone.In order to determine the effects of the environmental changes on soil respiration, soil respiration, soil humidity and soil temperature at different altitudes and soil depths on the water-level-fluctuating zone were tested using SRC-1 soil respiration meter and EGM-4 analyzer in Xiangxi River. Result showed that soil respiration had significant differences between altitudes and soil depths. These resulted from the difference of soil humility and soil temperature. The appropriate soil humidity and soil temperature were 35 % and 27 ℃ respectively. Soil respiration at 155 m and 185 m ranked the maximum as their soil humility and soil temperature were near the appropriate values. Soil respiration might increase as both the fluctuating width and fluctuating rhyme change significantly. The fluctuating width increases from 10 m to 30 m. The fluctuating changes from summer flooding - winter drought to summer drought - winter flooding.
