Potential Intrusion of Contaminants into Water Distribution Systems during Pressure Transients: a Case Study in Jiaxing, China
Intrusion of contaminants into water distribution system during pressure transients has been widely recognized as a significant health threat of users. If the low or negative pressures created by the pressure transient happened in the area of a leak or other orifice, contaminated water near the pipe can be drawn into the pipe. We conducted an investigation to provide data for the study of the potential for the contaminants intrusion of water distribution system during negative pressure in Jiaxing, China. We analyzed this potential from three factors: adverse pressure gradient, hydraulic pathway, and contaminant sources. The results of this study conclude that there is contaminants intrusion potential of the water distribution system in Jiaxing.
