The application of discrete method in hydraulic transient simulation for complex water supply system
To simplify the boundary conditions in complex water supply pipeline system, a discrete method is presented in this paper. Based on the transient simulation of method of characteristics (MOC), the discrete elements are adopted for a complex element with different hydraulic devices, such as bump, valve and pipes. For a complex original element, any device is separately considered as a simple element in the new simplified method, based on the equal energy loss. The method increases the number of variables and equations, but it simplifies significantly the process of boundary treatment and solutions. An example, including pump, valve and pipes, is also presented to compare and illustrate the discrete method. The transient process is simulated by different boundary treatment. The study shows that the method is convenient to simplify the complex boundary condition and obtain the reasonable hydraulic transient simulation.
