A development of FBG load cell and real time monitoring system for stay cables
The moment of the deck is generally controlled by adjusting the cable forces and it is essential to adjust the cable force to control the moment and geometry of deck during construction. In addition, a cable in service can be damaged easily due to factors such as environmental corrosion, fatigue, materials aging and stress redistribution, which result in that the cable no longer guarantees the design cable force. Therefore, real time monitoring of the cable force is very important during the construction and maintenance of the bridge. In this paper, the load cell based on the Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor is developed to measure the cable force and real time mobile monitoring system applied on the smart phone is developed to easily check the cable force anywhere and at the anytime.
