Multi-Scale Variability and Trends of Streamflow in Dongjiang River Basin, South China
Based on monthly streamflow data, Morlet wavelet transform method was used to analyze multi-scale variability of streamflow in the Dongjiang River Basin, South China. The results showed that the total annual streamflow in the Dongjiang River Basin decreased weakly from 1956 to 2005, and the rate of decrease was 2.2×l08m3/10yr. Multi-scale variability characteristics existed, which accounted for different aspects of the changes in annual streamflow, and the major periods of the runoff time series were identified as about 19 years, 12 years, 8 years and 4 years with decreasing levels of fluctuation. The multi-time scale characteristics of time-frequency for wavelet analysis can demonstrate the detailed structures of annual streamflow variations.
