RESEARCH ON THE INFLUENCE OF THE DEEP SEA TED SINKHOLE ON THE SETTLEMENT OF ROADWAYS
Ojekunle Olusheyi Zacchaeus;Yan Shuwang@College of Environmental Resources Management, University of Agriculture, Alabata, Ogun, Nigeria Roadway settlement caused by either movement of the underlying surface due to previous existing mine site or cut and cover tunnel are some of the common and reoccurring problems along highways, state roads, country roads, and local roads. Such incidents cause significant problems that may include lane and/or road closure, interruption to the public normal way of life, construction delays and interruption of the construction schedule. This research uses FEM to examine surface and the subsurface settlement profile caused by the previous mining activity. In the analysis, the influence of the size, shape and buried depth of the hole, as well as the height of the embankment, are considered.
