Stability Analysis of Low-head Sluices Stilling basin apron with Different Drainage System
The vertical or horizontal drainage system of apron is usually applied to reduce osmotic pressure at the bottom of apron. The drainage system effect of Stability of low-head sluices stilling basin apron was studied by model tests. The results indicate that fluctuating pressure in hydraulic jump with low Fr presents typically low-frequency characteristic. Due to the vertical drainage holes in the apron, gravity of apron decrease, and the fluctuating uplift increase, so the same apron applying horizontal drainage is more stable than applying vertical drainage. Otherwise, the large-scale turbulent pressure fluctuations enter into the gap layer at the bottom of apron plate by vertical drainage holes, and the sediment-laden flow will block out the drainage holes easily, it is recommended to apply the horizontal drainage under the stilling basin apron in low-head sluices stilling basin apron designs.
