Experimental Study on Free Expansion Rate of Cement Modified Expansive Soil

The typical characteristics of expansive soil is fissured, swell-shrink and over-consolidated. Cement is one of the main materials for improving expansive soil and mixing an appropriate amount of cement in can effectively modify the swell-shrink characteristic of expansive soil. Based on expansive soil characteristics and the analysis of the cement improved mechanism, by means of compaction test, the changing rule of the free expansion ratio of the cement modified expansive soil and the cement content and the age is discussed. The test results show that with the increase of cement content, the optimum moisture content increases and the maximum dry density decreases and the free expansion ratio reduced before and after compaction. As time grows, the free expansion ratio of the different cement mixed quality of cement modified soil that before compaction reduced uniformly in the first 7 days and reduced to the minimum on the seventh day, after that has the slightly increase and tends to gradually stably. After compacting, free expansion ratio in the same age reduce more obvious than before.
