Flood forecast by the distributed hydrological model EasyDHM coupled with the WRF model
Appropriate modeling tools should be available to realistically describe reactions of watersheds to climate change like large rains and to identify efficient and effective adaptation strategies on the regional scale. In this paper, the distributed hydrologic model EasyDHM, which was developed independently by our research group and its flood module are presented for hydrological simulation and flood forecast. The Weather Research and Forecasting model WRF is used for the regional precipitation forecasting, which can reduce the damages of flood events. An application case of the coupling forecasting system is given for the catchment of the Three Gauges Dam in this paper, where the water flows are significantly influenced by rains within this area. The forecasted flood events at three different hydrological stations are set as examples, presented and analyzed in this application. The results show that the coupling of WRF model to the flood forecasting module in the distributed hydrological model EasyDHM is necessary and of great significance.
