Numerical Investigation on Velocity Reduction of a Sea Current Flow across a Seabed Channel

Velocity reduction of sea current flowing across a seabed channel is numerically investigated. An engineering background comes from the construction of the seabed tunnel of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. In this paper, the flow is simply modeled as two dimensional and simulated by employing CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software. It is found that the velocity reduction on water surface right above the channel is remarkable. But variations of flow rate and water depth do not change the velocity reduction heavily. On the other hand, instead of velocity reduction, the man-made island would speed up the flow in its neighborhood.
