Research on the Application of Two Cascaded Multilevel Inverter on Direct-Drive Wind Power System
Direct-Arive wind power system has been receiving more attention due to their inherent efficiency. By eliminating the need for a gearbox between the wind turbine and generator, the system is less expensive and also requires less maintenance. With the capacity of direct-drive wind turbine power is increased, the multilevel inverter topology has a very good application on direct-driven wind power system. Two types of cascaded multilevel inverter topology are presented in this paper, the first is hybrid cascaded inverter technology, and the second is diode-clamp cascaded inverter technology. The detailed analysis of the topology is given as well as their modulation technique-carrier phase-shifted SPWM technique (CPS-SPWM). Finally the system model of two types of cascaded multilevel inverter based on CPS-SPWM has been built with MATLAB/SIMULINK. Results of simulation prove that both the hybrid cascaded inverter and diode-clamp cascaded inverter can output a higher voltage with lower THD, lower du/dt and higher equivalent switching frequency, which will have a better prospect in direct-drive wind power system.
