A Comparative Study on Evaporation and Crack Evolution of Red Clay
The comparative study on the evaporation, fracture development and water content changes in soil was performed through a evaporation model test of the red day. The result shows that both cracks and evaporation have significant development stages. In the first stage, the water content decreases rapidly due to the great evaporation and the soil cracks change significantly. In the next stage, the water content changes becomes slowly with the decrease of evaporation, but the soil surface cracks continue to develop. In the last stage the soil water content keeps invariable for the weak evaporation, and the crack evolution stops.
