APPLICATION STUDY OF UNIFIED TWIN SHEAR STRENGTH THEORY FOR RANKINE EARTH PRESSURE
Under plane strain condition a new formula of intermediate principal stress pressure is derived by the generalized Hook s law. Then the formulas of the active and passive earth pressure are derived based on the unified twin shear strength theory and theory of Rankine earth pressure. The weighted coefficient b considering effects of intermediate principal stress, the Poissons ratio and- static earth pressure coefficient is introduced to the formula. The formula of Rankine earth pressure is only a special example of the proposed formula. It is shown through a example that compared with data from experiment, the active earth pressures are larger by Rankines theory and in good agreement by the proposed formulae.
