Effect of Metabolites on Cell Surface Characteristic and Morphology of Candida tropicalis in wastewater treatment
Yeast has certain advantages in dealing with highoilcontaining wastewater. Effects of three possible metabolites (alcohol, acetic acid, butanoic acid) on the surface characteristic and morphology of Candida tropicalis cells were investigated in this study. The results show that: the metabolites didt induce the formation of O2 cell; under certain concentrations, alcohol accumulated had little effect on yeast cell morphology and surface characteristics. However, acetic acid and butanoic acid had a distinct toxic effect on cells, which mainly appeared as cell shinkage, contents increasing and irregular shap of cells. The morphological change has led to differences in cell surface characteristics. Effects of metabolites on the cell vary with different carbon sources, mainly reflect in the flocculation and settleability.
