The image processing application based on improved edge detection algorithm

Edge detection algorithm, by identifying each pixel in the neighborhood of the variation of gray, can detect image edge. However, due to the complexity and randomness of the loess microstructure images, verified by test, typical edge detection algorithms are not suitable for direct application on processing of loess microstructure image. In this paper, we improve edge detection algorithm and achieve its function through VC 6.0 platform, First use the median filter and mathematical morphology process image, reduce the noise effectively, clean background and enhance the image contrast; And then detect image edge based on Prewitt algorithm. Verified by test, it can remove the false edges effectively, distinguish the shape of loess particles and thus reveal the internal structure of matter more clearly. The method have a positive significance for developing aspects of processing microstructure image, Loess microstructure research, determination of loess engineering properties.
