The Applications of Fractional-order Maxwell Model to Seabed Mud and its Influence on Water-wave Damping

Seabed mud with complex viscoelastic properties can be described by the Fractional-order Maxwell model. The experimental data of real mud is well fitted by the fractional-order Maxwell model. Compared to traditional models, the fractional-order Maxwell model has less free parameters. The effect of wave damping induced by mud of the fractional-order Maxwell model is investigated. The damping rate of a linear monochromatic wave is obtained. The elastic resonance of the mud layer is observed, which leads to the peak of the damping rate. Modal analysis shows that, motion of first modal dominate the mud dynamics in most cases. Near resonance, the damping rate can be approximated by modal damping rate.
