Gatsby Tricked by False Consciousness

摘要：

The alienation criticism is adopted in this thesis to illustrate that Gatsby is fully tricked by the false consciousness and alienated completely. Ones consciousness is shaped by the culture one lives in. Gatsby obeys the doctrines in accordance with his culture, but fails badly. Everything goes out of his control and he is finally alienated by the false consciousness he has strong belief in. Gatsbys alienation shows that it is difficult to reconcile the contradiction between individuals and the society.
