A New Perspective on College English Education in the Context of Globalization
The increasing globalization brings the urgent need for a reform in College English education, which is an integrate part of Chinese Higher Education. In the context of globalization, English language teaching no long remains straightforward and text-based, but incorporates more dynamic, intercultural and nonlinear qualities with a global awareness. Based on the context of globalization, this paper analyzes how globalization reshapes English language education and points out globalization calls for a new balance in teaching and in the curriculum, an increasing awareness in cross-culture and a growing attention to the cultivation of students transferable skills. Further suggestions are offered in teaching philosophy and practice on College English education, guiding and enlightening students in their over-all ability and whole-person development as active and effective world citizens.
