Wavelet-based Multi-scale Edge Detection of Continuous-Wave THz Image
We adopt a multi-scale approach to edge detection of continuous-wave terahertz (CW-THz) image using wavelet transforms. In order to obtain more comprehensive information,better target identification and better test results from continuous-wave terahertz images,it is necessary to enhance the THz image quality using various image processing techniques. An efficient method for edge detection of images is very important for recognition and understanding of THz images. The classical edge detectors often are not good enough for noisy pictures because they cannot distinguish edges of different significance. The results obtained with the proposed wavelet-based edge detection method are superior to those of classical methods both visually and with respect to objective measurements by Edge Preserving Index (EPI) over 8. It is concluded that the proposed wavelet-based edge detection algorithm was able to successfully identify important edges,while the commonly used edge detection methods fails to accurately characterize and detect the edges of THz image.
