Novel U-shaped Fiber Sensor Based on Total Internal Reflection for Liquid Concentration Measurement
A new method to measure liquid concentration changes in real time based on total internal reflection is proposed. The experimental equipment can measure the output voltage,which in turn is related linearly to liquid concentration. The essential components in the system include a 5mW laser diode coupled to a smglemode silicon fiber,two fused couplers,a U-shaped sense probe,and a photodetector. It has some merits such as small,easy to manufacture,compact and inexpensive,while providing a high resolution on the order of 0.05% concentration or better. Results are presented for salt and sucrose aqueous solutions. Theoretical analysis and experimental result verify the feasibility of the equipment.
