High Accuracy Direction Finding Using Separated Subarrays
In this paper we study Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) estimation with a sparse linear arrays composed of two widely separated subarrays. Since a large array aperture is obtained with a small number of elements,this configuration can provide angle estimate with high accuracy. The proposed method for DOA estimate is the use of two-stage algorithms wherein the first stage performs an initial estimate with spares array Unitary ESPRTT(Estimation of signal parameter via rotational invariance techniques) and the second stage is used to refine the estimate through maximum likelihood method using secant method. Simulation results show the proposed approach outperforms the conventional methods such as monopulse and ESPRIT.
