Transmission of 16-QAM Phase Modulated OFDM Downlink and 16-QAM Intensity Modulated OFDM Uplink Signals in one WDM-PON
We propose and demonstrate a novel architecture of passive optical network (PON),where the phase modulation of 2.5-Gb/s 16-quadrarure-amplitudemodulation (16-QAM) orthogonal frequency-divisionmultiplexing (OFDM) signals is employed for downlink and the optical carrier is reused for uplink. Both the downstream and upstream signals have been transmitted over 40-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF-28) without optical dispersion compensation. Our results suggest this scheme will be a promising candidate in future access network.
