Fresh Produce Supply Chain Coordination with Buy Back Contract

We consider a two-stage supply chain in which a fresh produce supplier sells to a retailer facing a newsvendor problem. We examine how the supply chain maximizes her profit in an integrated chain. We propose a buy back contract and obtain that there exists a unique optimal order quantity and wholesale price in the decentralized chain. We also illustrate that the buy back contract can coordinate the supply chain and achieve Pareto-Improvement for both the supplier and the retailer compared to the case of a wholesale-price-only contract.
