Two Broadband Technologies Coexist on the Same HFC Network
This study aims to explore how the multiple system operators of cable television can remain their existing broadcasting advantages and cope with a strong, competitive telecommunications industry. As new and magnanimous data services are provided, multiple system operators, who have the lastmile advantage, are beginning to experience an increase in subscribers demands for bandwidth. First, this study explores the broadband transmission access technology of data over cable service interface specification that is used by multiple system operators of cable television. Next, the EPON technology that is used by carriers is evaluated. Finally, this paper presents a practical case in which a commercialized operation demonstrates how to successfully provide services for IEEE EPON technology on HFC networks. We conclude that die most significant contribution in this field will be a new network architecture that not only retains the characteristics of cable television but also provides high-bandwidth and high-quality broadband services.
