Analysis of Fire Risk for Tainan Grand Matsu Temple with National Heritage in Taiwan
Tainan City is the earliest area where immigrants lived and developed their daily life in Taiwan. For the reason, there are many cultural properties of past urban-development left there. The study regarded Tainan Chihkan Cultural Zone as research object and gave the evaluation on risk of fire on a heritage building: Grand Matsu Temple which is national heritage. In this research, the fire simulation, field survey and simple fire-fighting experiment are applied as methodology. The multi-layer zone model (MLZ) is used for predicting fire behavior in Grand Matsu Temple under a supposed case of fire in Guanying Hall; besides, the fire-fighting exercise was also processed to test if extinguishment would be in time or not. Through the fire simulation and firefighting drill, the fire safety and management for historic temple and historic block could be examined. Based on the simulation of fire spread, we found that if the fire cannot be extinguished in a temple within 2 minutes, the flam would spread to nearby buildings within temple; besides, the fire-fighting drill could be completed in 54 seconds which is less than fire spreading time. Because of none organization developed by nearby residents for fire prevention, how to improve the fire-fighting energy for community and to examine the efficiency for using simple firefighting resources becomes an important issue of fire safety management in Chihkan Cultural Zone.
