The Desire Narrative that Breaks Through the Traditional Chastity Idea-An Overview of the Banned Films in 1990s
In general the environment for literary and artistic creation is open in 1990s, but there still exists some taboos as the followed left literary system has not been completely broken, especially the traditional chastity idea has a fantastic influence on the whole Chinese society, thus those works representing human nature and sexual passion in literary and artistic creation often leads to criticism, even being banned. It is an awakening era of human desires in 1990s; many classic movies involved in desire are encountered by the following experiences: winning International Award, causing criticism, becoming famous, being banned and overflowed pirated CDs. However, after years of attempts by the directors, sex has been gradually unspelled and endowed with some expressing space. The appearance of desire narrative films provides us a chance to get a glimpse of the change of the chastity idea in literary and artistic works in the new era.
