Effect of high temperature on integrity of pressure vessels of nuclear power plant in case of severe unusual accident
The effect of temperature on material properties and structural stress of a cylindrical vessel is studied in this paper. The maximum pressure considering the thermal stresses and large strains is derived for power-hardening law materials. Research results indicate that the temperature above 300 °C will greatly reduce the integrity of vessels. A brief explanation on Fukushima nuclear accident is performed based on the simple numerical estimation by the proposed method.
