Limit load analysis of pressure pipe with internal double pits at high temperature

Corrosion pit defect is one common kind of volume defects in pressure pipe. Stress concentration can be easily induced due to the structure discontinuity, and the creep damage and fatigue crack initiation might occur, which would affect the bearing capacity of the pressure pipe seriously. So the limit load analysis of the pressure pipe with pit defects at high temperature is important and necessary. The present safety assessment methods relating to the pressure pipe with defects at room temperature have been developed, while the study on pressure pipe with volume defects at high temperature is at initial stage. In this paper, limit load was obtained by finite element simulation according to isochronous stress-strain curve and creep failure criterion at high temperature. Limit loads of pressure pipes with double pit defects on the internal surfaces of pipes, in different directions and with different spacing are obtained. Meanwhile, when double pits are close, the limit loads of high temperature pipes are acquired by combining the double pits. Finally, the method of determination of pressure pipe with double pit defects has been proposed.
