Influence of geomagnetic field on the spontaneous magnetic signals of ferromagnetic steel during tensile testing

The variation of magnetic signals and the identification of deformation state of Q345R steel, caused by the relative direction between initial magnetic signals and geomagnetic field, have been studied after tensile testing. Before yielding, little change of Hp with increasing stress can be observed when the initial magnetic signals has the same direction with the geomagnetic field;otherwise, the Hp signals would be reduced with increasing stress at first, and then reversed to the initial ones. After yielding, Hp signals were intensified and distributed in the same range. The different direction between initial magnetic signals and geomagnetic field has little influence on the identification of elastic-plastic boundary based on magnetic memory testing.
