The Developing Path of Suzhou Export-oriented Economy Against the Background of Transitional Economy
So far, Suzhou has made gigantic achievements in its export-oriented economy. In the drastic changing society, how to further develop its economy and how to adapt the foreign direct investment to Suzhous twelfths five year plan have become an essential task. In this paper, some experience and problems in developing export-oriented economy have been analyzed based on the positive and normative approaches. The study shows the export-oriented economy in Suzhou is characteristic of rapid foreign trade, processing as its main trade mode, focus of FDI in modern manufacturing and hi-tech industry. Such economy favors foreign companies and prejudices domestic ones, which has made domestic enterprises restrained. The processing trade emphasizes export which makes domestic market rely heavily on foreign trade with small profits, large consumptions of resources and degradation of environment. Solution includes adjusting investment strategy, maximizing export structure, supporting the cooperation between private enterprises and foreign companies, vigorously developing service industry, protecting intellectual property rights and implementing innovative economy.
