Researches on Gaseous Viscosity of Fluids: Measurement and Prediction
Understanding the thermophysical properties of fluids is essential for the design of related processes. In our laboratory, we have developed a series of apparatus to measure the thermophysical properties of fluids. Gaseous viscosity of fluids is very difficult to measure accurately. In recent years, we have developed a new apparatus using the oscillating-disk method to measure the gaseous viscosity of fluids. By using this viscometer, new experimental data of gaseous viscosity of some alternative refrigerants was obtained. Besides the measurement of gaseous viscosity, we also carried put investigation to predict transport properties of fluids at extreme temperatures (very low and very high temperatures). In principle, transport properties of fluids can be calculated from the intermolecular potential energy surfaces using statistical thermodynamics and kinetic theory. Prediction of transport properties of fluids using the ab initio potential and the kinetic theory will also be presented.
