Numerical Study of the overall Tube Bundle Flow Resistance in a Horizontal Tube Falling-film Evaporator

The computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method was employed for the numerical simulation of flow resistance of tube bundle in a horizontal tube falling-film evaporator. Using the method of combining porous medium model with empirical formula to analysis pressure distribution in large tube bundle evaporator and figure out factors of pressure drop , such as outlet position in evaporator chamber and free-flowing area (FFA) in size. The results show that outlet position impacts on pressure drop significantly, when side-opening, the best interest choice is middle-out. The width of FFA influences on flow resistance force obviously; however, the height of FFA has little effect on flow resistance force.
