Experimental study of characteristic of velocity of free falling particle stream

Fugitive dust is generated usually at bulk materials transportation systems in industries. Dust emission could be suspended or moved in the process of free falling caused by the influences of drag force, buoyancy force and gravity in ambient air. Thus, local or large area environment might be polluted by dusted air. The characteristic of the motion of particle dust in the ambient air is one of the important tasks in the artificial environment control. It belongs to the academic fluid dynamic research field of two-phase flow. This paper reported the experimental study of free falling sands in different diameters in quite environment air on a special experimental facility. The variation regularity of the falling velocity of bulk sand influenced by changed parameters was investigated. The experimental results indicated that, the velocity of particle stream increased with increasing outlet of the hopper, and the velocity of particle stream increased with increasing particle size.
