ENERGY CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS OF BIODIESEL TRANSESTERIFICATION USING ULTRASONIC MOBILE REACTOR

The depletion of oil reserves made the role of bio diesel as a renewable energy constituting an alternative to diesel fuel increased significantly. Research and development of bio diesel production technology was carried out in order to produce it efficiently (energy, time and cost) in term of green energy and eco production. The use of ultrasonic which could cause cavitations effects that were expected to obtain a more efficient technology was to be investigated in this research. Bio diesel production from palm oil with methanol in the presence of base-catalyst by an ultrasonic mobile reactor (frequency 28 kHz, volume 5 liters) was conducted in this paper. The objective of this work was to produce bio diesel which satisfying the bio diesel-fuel standards efficiently. It was obviously found the transesterification operation condition using ultrasonic mobile reactor could reduce reaction time and reaction temperature (optimum operation 20 minutes, 43 ℃). The results reported that energy consumption by ultrasonic mobile reactor was 0.0212 kWh/kg bio diesel around 57% of energy consumption by conventional method. Energy saving was about 0.0157 kWh/kg bio diesel.
