MODEL FOR DRYING OF THIN SLABS USING PULSED TURBULENT IMPINGING JETS
This study investigates the performance of impinging jet drying using pulsating turbulent jets and intermittent jets instead of using conventional steady jets. The computational fluid dynamic (CFD) approach was used for solving the conjugated heat/mass transfer problem of impingement drying with pulsed turbulent impinging jets. The partial differential equations of conservation were solved using the commercial CFD program Fluent. The effects of frequency and amplitude of pulsation of the jet on the local heat transfer rate and drying were examined at different jet Reynolds number and jet-totarget spacing.Drying of a wet slab was modelled using an effective diffusion model. The results indicate that intermittence and pulsation offers comparable performance to a steady jet but at considerably lower energy consumption.
