EFFECTIVE MULTIPHASE MODELING OF THE TRANSPORT PHENOMENA OF DRYING PROCESSES: THE SPATIAL REACTION ENGINEERING APPROACH (S-REA)

An effective drying model is useful for process design and prediction of product quality.For better understanding of transport phenomena, a multiphase drying approach is important.In this paper, the applicability of the S-REA as nonequilibrium multiphase drying model is evaluated.The S-REA is implemented to model the convective and intermittent drying of food materials and heat treatment of wood under linear heating rate.The S-REA describes the profiles of moisture content, water vapor concentration and temperature well.Therefore, the S-REA is an effective model of non-equilibrium multiphase drying approach and yields better understanding of transport phenomena of drying.
