ADSORPTION DRYING OF ANDROGRAPHIS PANICULATA

Convective air drying is the common process for post harvest of biological materials and normally involves comparatively high temperature.This might cause an adverse effect to thermal labile active compounds which contained in herbs, vegetables and fruits.Therefore, adsorption drying of andrographis paniculata was study in this research.Three types of desiccants namely silica gel, molecular sieve and drying bead were used in this study and the conditions were varied in term of desiccant ratio, temperature and ventilation.The drying behaviour and chemical properties of a ndographis paniculata were determined.The results revealed that the application of desiccants managed to shorten the drying time, and the anti-oxidant activity and DPPH were drying temperature and drying time dependent.As conclusion, adsorption drying could be an option for thermal labile biological material.
