FLOW AND MIXING CHARACTERISTICS OF TURBULENT OPPOSED JET FLOWS

Inspired by the increasing interests on mixing effectiveness of opposed jets, a numerical work is carried out to study the flow and mixing characteristics of turbulent opposed jet flows.The temperature-dependent thermo-physical properties of fluid has been taken into account and temperature is used as a passive tracer to evaluate the mixing flow characteristics in the current mathematical models.The numerical results indicate that the introduction of temperature difference leads to an asymmetric flow field.The effect of Reynolds number and temperature difference of opposed jet flows on the mixing effect are discussed.Examination of the flow field shows that the mixing effect is highly dependent on the turbulence vortex and residence time of jet flows in the exit channel.
