An Analysis on the Relationship between Trade Creation Effect and Trade Competitiveness--Take the CAFTA as an Example

Firstly, from Wieners trade creation effect definition (now known as the net trade creation effect), this article analysis the relationship between trade creation effect and trade competitiveness, by means of reasonable assumptions and model building, certifying the conclusion that a free trade area may not form a significant trade creation effect when its competitiveness is strong. Then, on the basis of CAFTAs recent commercial trading reality and combines with the export similarity index analysis, the essay inferences and later verifies a fact that because its competitiveness (known in the article as export similarity index) is strong, trade creation effect does not well formed in CAFTA, using the Balassa Model. Finally, the paper puts some related suggestions on policies based on the above analysis.
