Efficiency vs. Equality: Duality in Global Trade Mechanism -Exploring the Case of Taiwan and China
This short article reviews what happened during the 10-years period after Taiwan joined WTO in Jan. 2002. Economic Indicators as well as social impact will be brought forward for discussion. It is our initial conclusion that joining WTO, which was so highly cherished 10 years ago, has created free trade mechanism and promoted efficiency and business innovation. But other equality and public interest issues remain. Taiwan still needs to open many other windows of trade opportunity, for example ECFA. This reminds us of duality and dilemma inherently built in Global Trade Mechanism.
