CONFINEMENT EFFECTS ON THE DYNAMIC COMPRESSIVE PROPERTIES OF GRANITE
The behavior of rock under dynamic loading has gained great attention in many fields, such as exploration, rock fragmentation, military defense and rock-burst.Experiments on granite under uniaxial and confined compressive loading are conducted with the split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB).By adding the soft material mass as the pulse shaper,it can ensure the stress uniformity in the specimens before fracture and avoid the fluctuation of test data due to input stress pulse. The experimental results show that the compressive strength and the fragment numbers of granite increase with the strain rate. The fragment size decreases with the strain rate. The research method and conclusions can be used to analyze the dynamic behavior of the other brittle materials.
