CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF AA6061-T6 ALLOY IN THE ETHYLENE GLYCOL-WATER SOLUTION
The corrosion behavior of AA6061-T6 alloy was investigated in ethylene glycol (EG)-water solutions by the electrochemical measurement. After long term immersion test, the AA6061 alloy suffers more severe corrosion in stimulated corrosion water with EG than that without EG.The addition of glycolic acid (GA) to the EG-water solution renders the corrosion potential to more negative direction and increases the corrosion current density. There are no evident changes for the cathodic Tafei slopes in the EG-water solution with and without GA.The presence of GA strengthens the anodic dissolution of AA6061 alloy in the EG-water solution. The electrochemical impedance spectra (E1S) showed that the polarization resistance of AA6061 decreased with the increasing of the concentration of GA.The enhanced corrosion of AA606I alloy is attributed to the oxidation of EG,which can form a dissolved complex with aluminium ions.
