CHARACTERIZATION OF IN-PLANE FIBER ARCHITECTURE IN Z-PINNED UNIDIRECTIONAL CARBON-FIBER PREFORMS
In this study a comprehensive investigation on the changes of microstructure in z-pinned unidirectional carbon-fiber preforms caused by the z-pinning by dry process is carried out.Analysis of digital images of the local fiber architecture in a unit cell is taken.Distortion length and distortion width which characterize the local microstructure are measured.The fiber distortion model is used to describe the inhomogeneous fiber volume fraction and in-plane fiber deflection angle due to z-pinning.
