EFFECTS OF DESIGN PARAMETER CHANGES ON THE FATIGUE LIFE OF LIGHT-BLOCKED COMPONENT

The front end light-blocked components of the third generation of synchrotron radiation (SR) facility are subjected to intense thermal cycles from the high intensity X-ray beams. This work studies the effects of design parameter changes on the stress-strain responses and at last on the thermal fatigue lives of a simplified light-blocked component.A thermal elastoplastic finite element method (FEM) was used to simulate the stress-strain variation of the component in the fatigue process.Three significant design parameters,i.e.heat flux distribution, beam line incidence angle and beam spot drift position, were analyzed to estimate their influences on the fatigue life on the light-blocked component. The predicted results based on Smith-Watson-Topper (SWT) model provide reference data for future thermal fatigue tests.
