How Do the Academic Libraries Promote the Competitive Technical Intelligence?-The Best Practices of the National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences
Competitive Technical Intelligence (CTI) is the mainly task of the consulting organizations, information service institutes, information service divisions of policy-makers of organizations.The National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) is one of the major academic libraries in China, engaged in S&T information services, intelligence services and information system development.In the recent ten years, NSL has organized serial information services for many needs, such as S&T strategy and policy-making, trends of S&T advancement, competitiveness analysis of nations and institutions, subject information tracing and monitoring, patent analysis and services, S&T novelty services, S&T evolution and technology opportunities. In the view of information analysis methods, NSL has applied many analysis methods into various competitive technical intelligence, such as metrics/patent analysis, technological opportunities monitoring, technology road-mapping, and relevance analysis of literatures.In the view of service objects, NSL has provided the information for highlevel leaders, S&T managers, scientific research project leaders, core scientists, enterprise manager, and enterprise technicians.In the view of information analysis system, NSL has developed the information analysis platform for the topics of patent analysis, scientific and technological evolution, S&T competitiveness analysis, S&T trends. Deep development of academic digital libraries, competitive technical intelligence will become the core capability of academic library and provide the information service for institutional knowledge management, institutional asset management, macro/micro decision-making.
