Providing Infants and Young Children with Micronutrients in Emergency and Disaster Situations and in Regions Where Food Insecurity are Prevalent

Emergencies and disasters in different parts of the world arise from time to time. When these occur, many government and non-government agencies and private enterprises donate human, material and food resources to relieve some of the devastating consequences. Where nutrition is an issue, infants and children are u-sually the first to be affected. In developing countries, food insecurity exists. Here again infants and young children are the primary victims. Where micronutrient malnutrition is prevalent, physical and mental development of the young individual are adversely affected. The H. J. Heinz Company Foundation signature project is combating micronutrient malnutrition. This lecture will discuss projects supported by the Foundation in partnership with non-governments agencies and the respective governments in responding to emergency situations in Indonesia and India.
