Present Development Situation and Tendency of Edible Mushroom Industry in China
China has a long history of mushroom cultivation, and has become the largest mushroom producer, consumer and exporter. Mushrooms are considered nutritional and healthy, and some are recognized as medicine. The annual production of mushrooms is over 20 million t, which is still growing. Around 60 varieties are cultivated and popular. The population involved in mushroom industry is over 20 million. More and more resources are allocated for research and development of mushrooms. Although most mushrooms are grown seasonally, modernization of mushroom industry is taking place. Technology and equipment from Japan and Korea are spreading rapidly in China, and it is believed that modern farming of Agaricus bisporus will be the trend for the next 5-10 years, due to the rising cost of both raw materials and labor. Technology, equipment and experienced experts in this area will be in want.
