Mushroom Lectins and Their Biological Activities
Mushroom lectins from Tricholoma mongolicum, Lentinus edodes, Pleurotus ostreatus, Agrocybe cylindracea, Pleurotus tuber-regium, Polyporus adusta, Xerocomus spadiceus, Schkophyllum commune, Peziza sylvestris, Armillaria luteo-virens, Xylaria hypoxylon, Boletus edulis, Pleurotus citrinopileatus, Inocybe umbrinella, Cordyceps militaris and Lactarius flavidulus were purified and characterized. The biological activities of the lectins were determined. Some of them possessed antiproliferative activity against tumor cells in vitro. Several lectins were immunomodulatory substances rather than substances exerting direct cytotoxicity. TML-1, a lectin from Tricholoma mongolicum, produced a potent, sustained hypotensive effect in normotensive rats.
